Hello, world. I’m MacDara Conroy, and this is my blog.

Tim's Vermeer

My latest film reviews on Thumped include 300: Rise of an Empire, which is out today, and the excellent Tim’s Vermeer (still showing at the Light House in Smithfield). You can also peruse my critical takes on the RoboCop reboot, the humdrum Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit, Vince Vaughn vehicle Delivery Man and the Coen Brothers’ Inside Llewyn Davis.

There’s a few you might have missed from late last year, too, such as lost-in-the-woods horror In Fear, sci-fi adap Ender’s Game, Disney’s Frozen and Mary Poppins making-of biopic Saving Mr Banks, and the return of Ron Burgundy in Anchorman 2 (not the re-released one with the new jokes; I’ll give that a go when it’s out on home video).

Meanwhile, I’ve got a couple of reviews for forthcoming attractions in the works, and no doubt more to come as the spring-summer release schedule picks up. Here’s hoping the quality picks up, too; out of all the films I’ve listed here, I’d only recommend two as must-sees, and maybe two more as worth a look. That can’t be good.
