About Me
MacDara Conroy is my name. I’m a twenty-something journalist, editor and all-round creative type living in Dublin, Ireland. Since October 2006 I’ve been the chief sub-editor and layout designer for Metro Eireann, Ireland’s first and only multicultural weekly newspaper.
My varied interests range from the arts to the sciences to culture, best reflected by my weblog and my writing. I am fascinated by the power of the blogosphere in today’s media environment, enthralled by great discussion and new ideas on virtually any topic, and glued to the screen when the wrestling comes on.
About This Site
The current iteration of this website is the result of an effort to make it both more usable for visitors and more adaptable for my own purposes. The design was influenced by my recent explorations in the realm of publication design and layout grids, and clearly owes a debt to the spare clarity of sites like Khoi Vihn's Subtraction, particularly obvious in my choice of typeface, Helvetica, which I’ve come to appreciate for its freshness and elegant simplicity.
This site is created from templates hand-coded in XHTML with CSS for styling and layout. I do all my coding, and lots of other things besides, in SubEthaEdit for the Mac.
The site should also be accessible to visitors with disabilities (unless your disability is a lack of common sense or sense of humour).
This site is hosted by the good folks at Cornerhost in Georgia, USA, and managed with Movable Type. All the cool kids might be using WordPress, but MT has done alright by me.
