Crenshaw’s Last Stand
Last night was spent at the Olympia for—according to what I’ve read—the final live performance of Otis Lee Crenshaw. The show was supposed to be a double-bill with Crenshaw’s more widely known alter-ego, Rich Hall, but I guess if it’s his last performance, it’s only fair to allow a little indulgence. (Could have announced it beforehand, though.)
As a result of his being the great comedian that he is, last night’s gig was a lot of fun, although I have seen him better. And besides, I’ve always preferred Rich Hall as himself anyway. My mum really enjoyed it however. I didn’t think she’d say yes when I asked her if she wanted to go (we have this thing about going to the theatre every now and again; would stand-up comedy be a step too far?) but judging by her reaction last night, it looks like I have someone to lean on in future when I’d rather not go to a similar show alone.
(I would ask friends, but some of them would much rather waste their money on getting pissed and forgetting the night before than laugh their arses off for an hour or two and keeping the memory; this isn’t so much a criticism as an observation from someone who feels quite different about such matters.)
