Africa, Here I Come

Despite my words on the day itself, last Friday wasn’t all bad. I did, after all, collect my tickets from the travel agent.

What tickets? Why, the tickets for my flying visit to South Africa, of course!

You must be joking! Certainly not! Just to prove it, here’s the ticket for the first leg of my journey:

And for the second leg:

That’s right, in mid-August, I will be spending a week in the Johannesburg-Pretoria area, visiting her, and doing, well, I’m not quite sure what we’ll be doing yet. We haven’t made any solid plans, so I guess we’ll see what happens.

Of course, this means that I won’t be posting any weblog entries for the week that I am away, but I will be keeping a diary of my African adventures, and bringing along my trusty digital camera — the ‘didge’ — to capture whatever sights intrigue me.

To be honest, I’m rather nervous about the trip. It’s less than six weeks away now, so the gravity of the situation is starting to set in. For one thing, I haven’t even started to pack yet!

But seriously, I will be really out of my element; a total fish out of water. Plus, I’ll be passing a number of significant milestones with this voyage: I’ve never travelled that far before; I’ve never been to the southern hemisphere; and I’ve never been to Africa. So I really don’t know what to expect.

But that’s what life is for, isn’t it? The living.
