Sharon’s essentially playing the same card as Bush is: any criticism of his actions or of the ideology he is pursuing is obviously to be seen as an attack on his country’s vaules as a whole. Thus, if you’re of the opinion that (say) Camp X-Ray is a sham and is illegal under international law, or that really, it’s not quite cricket to build a huge wall that separates Palestinian olive farmers from their groves, leaving them to face financial ruin, you’re somehow on a par with the kind of people who don’t see anything wrong with blowing up a synagogue. It’s a nice rhetorical trick, and all of a piece with the neo-con political propaganda machine.
