Regarding Notes & Queries
In what amounts to a welcome but misguided attempt at spam-blocking in the latest version of Movable Type (to which I have just upgraded the engine that drives this website) it seems that notes and queries can no longer be added to entries automatically without my approval.
As noted on the previous entry, I had assumed the problem was fixable, that it was just a settings issue. But after setting and resetting the comment preferences in the configuration menu, the options are ignored and all notes added are forced into a holding cell to be vetted before publication. It’s annoying for me, because I have to log into MT and manually accept any comments that have been submitted, and it’s annoying for you because your comments aren’t showing up where and when they’re supposed to.
Hopefully this bug will be addressed when Movable Type 3.1 is released at the end of the month. In the meantime, don’t be alarmed if you leave a note and it doesn’t show up; it will, eventually.
Update 01/09: Last night I upgraded the site to run on Movable Type 3.1. When the upgrade resulted in even more problems, I was at my wit’s end — hair-pulling, fist-balling and all of that — until I dawned on me to delete all versions of the MT-Blacklist plugin from my MT directory, for no other reason other than to see if removing them would help. And guess what? It worked! As of right now, notes and queries can once again be added to entries without prior approval. Hooray!
