It’s a new year, and as I write this I’m coming towards the end of my Christmas break from the day job. Wrestle Kingdom 10 is on Monday morning, so I’m back to the grind on Tuesday — but even that’s not all bad as I’ve got a screening of The Revenant on Tuesday morning to kick things off.
The last few weeks didn’t feel like the holiday it should have, since I still had freelance commitments, as I always do. That’s not really counting the few reviews I had published during December, which is always good, but work is work. I didn’t get caught up on music like I expected, so my round-up is still a work in progress. My mood’s been up and down.
But I got to watch a lot of movies, so that’s something. I’ve been reposting my reviews and reactions to those from my Letterboxd account; you can go there for the latest before I reblog them here.
Wrestling, too, is something I’ve been diving back into in a big way lately: on the WWE Network, on NJPW World, on blogs and podcasts. You can probably tell from the two lengthy wrestling things I’ve written here in recent weeks. The enthusiasm of Wrestling Twitter is infectious, I must say. So I’m writing.
What I haven’t been doing is reading. Books, anyway. Goodreads says I finished just seven in 2015. I’ve got a Kindle full of good ones, a few I started months ago. I just haven’t been in the mood to Read with a capital R. I’m one of those people who has to be into it or I won’t get anywhere. Sometimes the feeling just isn’t right, and this is one of those times.
And then I remember I read every single day — for the day job, for my freelance work, for leisure and pleasure, whenever I’m online — and if I had a metric for all of that it’d put that paltry seven-book tally to shame.
So what’s for the new year ahead? Getting out of this funk, for one. I have plans, but I’m not making any predictions or resolutions this time around. I just want to do some good. And when I do I’ll write about it here.
