Hello, world. I’m MacDara Conroy, and this is my blog.

Film review — Rich Hall’s Continental Drifters

If this were made for YouTube we’d call it a video essay, but it was produced for BBC Four so it gets to be a documentary, I suppose. That doesn’t really work for me; the term is loaded with presumptions of artistry when I expect Rich Hall himself would say nah, I’m just a guy spouting opinions about shit I’ve observed. As a stand-up of his calibre would. Funnily enough, I watched this on YouTube as it’s not available via ‘official’ channels, so we’ve come back around! A video essay it is, so – in this case on the meaning of the road movie in American culture, and Hall is as cranky-yet-amiable company as ever. ★★★★
