Film review — Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Shocking Truth

Did I see this at an IFI Horrorthon? It seems like something that might’ve happened. Nothing shocking about it, to be honest; it’s merely a succession of talking heads sharing their recollections of making a movie on a shoestring budget in a hot Texas summer. It’s the movie itself that’s truly disturbing. I’ll never forget the first time I saw it, soon after it was passed following a longtime ban by Irish film censors, in a mostly empty Cinema 1 at the aforementioned IFI — introduced by an elderly drunkard a few rows ahead who cackled “Welcome to hell!” More films should get that kind of a preface, in my opinion. ★★★
