Far too much being made here about the whole ‘they never mention climate change lol’ thing, as if no one knows the climate in which movies like this are made. The producers picked their battles and went with the unscrupulous developers angle, which in itself is fairly radical for a summer popcorn flick that’s meant to convince the denizens of flyover country to hand over their dollars. As a spectacle, the effects are seamless but the set-pieces never amount to more than ‘characters hold onto things as it gets extra windy’ where the original had more variety (including two different house destructions). Meanwhile, everyone’s right about Daisy Edgar-Jones wilting in the gleaming star-shine of Glen Powell, a name I’d never heard until a year ago but a presence that’s absolutely perfect for his role and this film. Fingers crossed he’s not another Armie Hammer. ★★★
